The ancestors of the Finnsheep come from northern Russia and Finland. In Finland and Sweden the breed has been further developed, and in the 1980s and the early 1990s the breed came to Denmark, where a number of enthusiastic breeders promoted the breed as "Danish Fine-wool". The English name for the breed is usually Finnsheep.

The Finnsheep belongs to the group of nordic short-tailed sheep, which are known for, among other things, the special way it deposits fat, where too much fat does not settle so easily around the muscle layer, but mostly settles around the entrails, this makes the meat particularly lean, and the buyer does not have to pay extra for fat meat, as the fat is removed with the entrails.

The Finnsheep are very fertile, and by flushing we have achieved 5 and 6 lambs from one ewe, without flushing the majority of the ewes give 3 lambs, the rest give 2 or 4. The few exceptions which only give 1 lamb or none are culled from the breeding stock.

Our experiences with the many lambs are positive, 3 and 4 lambs normally do not present any problems to the ewes, and it is rarely necessary to supplement the milk to ensure good growth, but it is still necessary to keep an eye on the lambs to ensure that the mother allows all the lambs access to the milk in the beginning.
